JON BROCKMAN, JUSTIN DENTMON EARN NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BASKETBALL COACHES DISTRICT HONORS

The University of Washington issued the following news release:

The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has recogized Washington seniors Jon Brockman and Justin Dentmon as members of its Division I All-District teams, recognizing the nation's best men's collegiate basketball student-athletes. Brockman is a first-team selection, while Dentmon was named to the second-team for District 20, which is made up of Pac-10 players on the West Coast. Arizona State's James Harden, Arizona's Jordan Hill, California's Jerome Randle and UCLA's Darren Collison were also named to the first-team. Dentmon is joined by Arizona's Chase Budinger, Arizona State's Jeff Pendergraph, California's Patrick Christopher and USC's Taj Gibson.

A native of Snohomish, Wash., Brockman is on the midseason watch list for both the John R. Wooden Award and the James Naismith Trophy - both national player of the year awards. He leads the Pac-10 in rebounding for the third-straight season and is the UW's all-time leading rebounder. His 1,735 career points also ranks as the fourth-highest total in school history. A native of Carbondale, Ill., Dentmon has undergone a renaissance this season. His scoring average this season has increased by nearly six points per game and he is ranked among the top 15 career scorers in school history. Dentmon is also among the top three in UW history for steals and assists and is the second-leading scorer in the league for conference games. Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, these student-athletes represent the finest basketball players across America. The 240 student-athletes, from 24 districts which were realigned this season, are now eligible for the State Farm Coaches' Division I All-America teams to be announced on Saturday, April 4, at Hoop City in the COBO Center at 10 a.m. as part of the 2009 NABC Convention in Detroit. About the National Association of Basketball Coaches Located in Kansas City, Mo., the NABC was founded in 1927 by Forrest "Phog" Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game. The NABC currently claims nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches. All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today's student-athletes. The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service and education. Additional information about the NABC, its programs and membership, can be found at www.nabc.com.
