Sorry for the late nature of this post, it is a hazard of the hours and days off..
However, the news that Garland Judkins – point guard out of Humble, Texas – has committed to the University of Arizona instead of going the prep school route which he had planned, is news that breathes sighs of relief throughout Tucson.
Granted, Judkins is not going to be anywhere near the type of player that Jennings would have been if he would have come to Tucson. When the jaded glasses are taken off, however, and the memory of Jennings is gone – this is a solid pickup for the Wildcats.
Judkins is no slouch of a player, having received scholarship offers from high powered schools such as Miami, Oklahoma and Texas, and will be counted on to provide depth that appeared to be lacking so severely since Jennings decided to go to Europe.
He is a little bit like Pat Green for all you country fans. If you aren’t.. well.. ignore this paragraph. But he has the same characteristics when you are talking about career progression. He has lit up the Texas circuits and has made quite a name for himself in the Lone Star state. However, outside of the state, he has not become well known. That may all change now that Judkins is on his way to the high-profile program of the UA.
Ok, you non-country fans can continue reading now.. Rashaan Gethers, of GOAZCats.com has an interview up with perhaps one of the only recruiting ‘experts’ that has heard of Judkins, Jim Hicks. The article can be found by clicking here.
So just as many of you (and myself) postulated in one of the previous comments threads, Arizona definitely needed to fill the hole and scrambled to do so. Whether the gamble pays off remains to be seen. But at least there is a warm body taking up a roster spot.
