Bayless named MVP, added to Select Team
Portland Trail Blazers rookie Jerryd Bayless was named the top rookie of the NBA Summer League on Sunday after averaging a league-high 29.8 points in four games in Las Vegas.
Bayless shot 49 percent from the field during the league. He hit 43 percent of his three-point attempts and collected 4.8 rebounds per contest.
Against the Suns on Saturday, the former Phoenix St. Mary's High and University of Arizona standout scored 36 points, including the Trail Blazers final 13 points.
He hit a jump shot with 18 seconds left to give Portland a 74-73 win.
On Sunday, Bayless was also named to a select team of young NBA players that will scrimmage against the U.S. Men's National Team this week to help the team prepare for the Olympic Games.
The Suns' Robin Lopez, who averaged 14 points and 7.8 rebounds per game in the Summer League, was named to the select team on Saturday.
