Bayless, Budinger Lead Arizona To 84-69 Victory Over Washington

Jerryd Bayless scored 26 points and Chase Budinger added 25 in an Arizona display of sharpshooting that led to an 84-69 rout of Washington on Saturday.

Jordan Hill added 16 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots, giving him 11 blocks in the Wildcats' sweep of the Washington schools. He had a career-best six blocks in Thursday's 76-64 victory over No. 6 Washington State.

Arizona (14-6, 4-3 Pac-10) shot 62 percent (28-of-45) overall and was 13-of-22 from 3-point range, 9-of-14 in the second half.

Bayless, the Wildcats' standout freshman guard, was 9-of-11 from the field, including 5-of-6 on 3s, and had six assists. Budinger was 8-of-15, including 5-of-10 on 3-pointers.

Jon Brockman had 24 points and Ryan Appleby added 13 for the Huskies (12-8, 3-4).

Arizona scored the last eight points of the first half to go up by 13, then turned the game into a rout with its avalanche of 3-pointers in the second half.

The Wildcats shot 70 percent from the field (16-of-23) and 9-of-10 from the free throw line to take a 45-32 halftime lead. Hill had 13 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots in the first half.

Chase Budinger started the late first-half run with a 3-pointer with 3:25 to play. Neither team scored again until Nic Wise's 3 made it 43-32 with 45 seconds left. Wise drove for a layup with 3 seconds left to give the Wildcats their 13-point halftime lead.

Budinger, Jawann McClellan and Jerryd Bayless made 3s as Arizona opened the second half with a 10-4 spurt to go up 55-36 with 15:27 to play. Another 3-pointer by Bayless made it 60-40 with 10:24 to go. Yet another 3 by Bayless put Arizona ahead 79-53 with 4:50 left.

Twenty-one fouls were called in the first half. Brockman got his second just 41/2 minutes into the game and sat out 9 minutes of the half.

A disgusted Kevin O'Neill, Arizona's interim coach, got in a nose-to-nose argument with official Bobby McRoy after a disputed offensive foul call against Budinger, but no technical was called. The two hugged and laughed after the argument ended.

Hill scored seven points in a 12-2 run that put the Wildcats ahead 28-19 with 8:45 remaining in the half. Arizona capped the run when Hill blocked a shot, leading to McClellan's fastbreak layup with 8:45 left.

Two of Arizona's three Pac-10 losses -- at home against Oregon and at Arizona State -- came when Bayless was out with a sprained knee.
