Arizona deals a blow to short-handed USC (basketball notes, links)

Thursday was a good day for road teams in the Pac-10, with one exception. Stanford, Cal and Arizona got impressive wins away from home, but the same can't be said for Arizona State, which is starting to spiral downward. To the links:

- Arizona, faced with a gimmick defense from USC, finds the answer in senior Jawann McClellan, who scores a career-high 23 points in an impressive 80-69 road win. McClellan credits taking care of his body for his good play, which helps the Wildcats win their fourth in a row.

-- Already-shorthanded USC loses guard Daniel Hackett early to a hip injury, then loses late to the Wildcats. The injury, which could be a chipped hip bone or broken rib, leave the Trojans, in coach Tim Floyd's words, "incredibly thin" on the perimeter. Even with a record crowd at the Galen Center, the Trojan lose again at home.

-- Oregon, already having problems at point guard, could be without freshman Kamyron Brown, who sprained his ankle in a rec league pickup game, when it plays host to Oregon State on Saturday.

-- Kevin Mouton prepares to return to Mac Court, where he once played for the Ducks. Paul Buker weighs in on the slumping Marcel Jones.

-- UCLA, behind Kevin Love's 12th double-double and Josh Shipp's 21 points, utterly dismantles Arizona State's zone defense in a dominant 84-51 win. The Bruins shoot a season-best 58.5 percent from the field as they play unselfish basketball to near perfection.

-- Arizona State is plagued by turnovers and overwhelmed by UCLA as the Sun Devils run their losing streak to four with no end in sight. ASU was never a threat to the Bruins as it lost for the seventh consecutive time against UCLA.

-- Brook Lopez scores a career-high 31 points to lead Stanford to a 65-51 win against Washington that is its first victory in Seattle since 2001. Lopez shoots 11 for 17 from the field and adds 13 rebounds in a dominant performance against the Huskies.

-- Washington's fans file out early as the Huskies, unable to deal with Stanford's size, suffer their worst home loss since 2003. Jon Brockman gets a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, but he falls seven points below his average.

-- Cal, short-handed with center DeVon Hardin home sick, gets 27 points from Ryan Anderson and key plays from Jamal Boykin in his first start as the Golden Bears knock off No. 9 Washington State 69-64 in Pullman.

-- Derrick Low misses a potential game-tying three-pointer in the final minute as he goes 0 for 9 from three-point range for the Cougars, who are plagued by inconsistent rebounding and defense. Washington State falls one the wrong side of its thin line between winning an losing.
