While the status of the Arizona men's basketball team's 2008 recruiting class remains unsettled, work on the 2009 class is well under way.
Tuesday, the Wildcats secured an oral commitment from a second highly regarded high school forward in as many weeks.
Mike Moser, a 6-foot-8 wing from Portland (Ore.) Grant High called Lute Olson on Tuesday to give his commitment to play at UA in the fall of 2009.
"Coach Olson was telling me about how they're going to get back to running an up-and-down system, the system they used to win with,"
Moser said. "That's the system that fits my game, so I called him up Tuesday and told him that's where I want to be."
Moser joins 6-foot-9 Vallejo (Calif.) Bethel High power forward/center Greg Smith as the first two recruits to give commitments to UA for the 2009 class.
The versatile Moser said he averaged 17.7 points, 13.7 rebounds and "three to four" blocked shots a game during his junior season.
"I can play the two (shooting guard) or the three (small forward),"
said Moser, who because of his size often plays center for his high school team. "When I get to Arizona, I think I can play right away. That's definitely my plan. Coach said he sees me filling in for Chase Budinger when he leaves."
Moser is rated by both Rivals.com and Scout.com as a four-star recruit. Rivals ranks him as the No. 17 small forward in the country. Scout has him as the No. 30 power forward.
Moser likens his game to that of Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nuggets. Moser said he's talked several times with UA assistant Mike Dunlap, a former Nuggets assistant, about how the young recruit can better emulate the NBA star's game.
